COVID-19: U. S. resumes rise in new daily cases after slowing for a few days, while Italy and Spain maintain numbers within past ranges

UNITED STATES - The U. S. currently leads the world in the number of new COVID-19 cases each day, followed by Italy and Spain. The number of new cases in the United States appeared to have peaked on April 5 at 34,272 (see accompanying graph), but now a few days later, a new peak has been reached on April 11 with 35,527 new cases (data from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control).  Full article

Daily new cases of COVID-19 may have peaked in U. S., following Italy and Spain

BEND, OREGON, April 8, 2020 - The number of new COVID-19 cases reported each day in the United States may have peaked on April 5 (see accompanying graph). This follows Italy who peaked on March 27 and Spain who peaked on April 1.

Number of new COVID-19 cases still rising in U. S., while leveling off in Italy and Spain

BEND, OREGON, April 4, 2020 - A leading indicator of the future trend of the COVID-19 virus is the number of new cases reported each day. The United States of America currently leads the world in the number of new cases each day, followed by Italy and Spain. On April 3, 2020, the U. S. reported 32,425 new cases, compared to 7,472 in Spain and 4,585 in Italy (data from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control).


During the last week, the U. S. has been reporting more new cases each day than the previous day, while Italy and Spain have been reporting a leveling off of new cases in the 4,000 to 9,000 range (see accompanying graph).  Full article

U. S. now leads world in daily new corona virus cases

BEND, OREGON, March 27, 2020 – The United States has jumped ahead of all other countries in the number of new COVID-19 cases reported each day (see accompanying graph).

On March 27 the U. S. reported 16,797 new cases (data for the previous day), compared to China with 111 new cases on March 27 and Italy with 6,153 new cases.  China and Italy led the U. S. in daily new cases until March 23, when the U. S. passed China.  Full article

U. S. far outpaces China and Italy in new virus cases

BEND, OREGON USA, March 25, 2020 – The number of new COVID-19 cases is growing much more rapidly in the U. S. than it has in China and Italy (see accompanying graph). The U. S. eclipsed China in the number of new daily cases around the 12th day of the outbreak in the U. S., or March 23 (assuming the U. S. outbreak began on March 12, the first day 300 daily new cases were exceeded in the U. S.) Full article

U.S. surges past China in new virus cases

BEND, OREGON USA, March 24, 2020 - On March 23, 2020, the number of new COVID-19 cases reported each day in the U. S. surpassed the largest number of new cases that was reported in China on a single day (see accompanying graph). The U. S. count of new cases on March 23 was 8,459, compared to China’s peak of approximately 7,744 new cases reached on February 5.  Full article
